This weeks Dance 4 Life Broadcast with the Stafford Brothers

Function, aka David Sumner, should be a familiar name to anyone who’s been paying attention to techno in New York City for the past 15+ years. Heavily influence by the early New York rave scene (Limelight, NASA, Storm, etc), Dave dove into production with a string of releases and collaborations on Damon Wild’s seminal Synewave label in the mid-90s. From the late 90s to the early 00s, Function put out many productions on his own label, Infrastructure. In the process he made a strong artistic connection with Regis and Female from the UK, and formed Portion Reform with Regis, releasing a handful of 12″s and an album on the cult, UK Midlands based imprint, Downwards. This connection remains strong to this day. In 2008, Dave moved to Berlin and began to strongly focus on the Sandwell District label, which was undoubtedly one of the breakout labels that year. The label was launched in 2002, and has only put out 15 releases since then, each one well worth owning. In 2010, the techno spotlight is shining brightly on Sumner and Sandwell. He has a residency at Berghain, and appears regularly at other huge clubs around Europe, and from all reports, his performance was the best set at the Labyrinth Festival in Japan this year. And now with Sandwell District being slated to close the main stage at Sonar this June, 2 new groundbreaking V/A Promo 12″s in the pipeline set to come out in May/June 2010, which will precede a full length Sandwell District album and 2 new collaborative projects with Jerome Sydenham for CLR and Ibadan, the future really couldn’t be much brighter.

Jerome Sydenham is one of the hottest tickets in the world of house and techno music right now. His DJ sets are nothing short of phenomenal – veering from deep, intricate, chugging techno, to jackin’ tech house, into huge anthemic house moments in the classic vein. Always pursuing his love for techno – both industrial-edged thumpers and deep, soulful Detroit moments, with some melodic beauties along the way.

Jerome Sydenham’s illustrious music career took off in the late eighties when he joined the prestigious A&R division at Atlantic Records where he worked with the likes En Vogue, Das Efx, and breaking the vocal house group Ten City. Soon after he met emerging producer Kerri Chandler – one of his closest friends and a former collaborator, his name as a producer and DJ gradually built over the ‘90s, with his superb label Ibadan Records launched in 1995.

He is best known for beautiful, emotive, sunkissed deep house tracks like “Swimming Places”, and his timeless collaboration with Dennis Ferrer, “Sandcastles”, both on leading house imprint Defected. However he also shares Ferrer’s love for hypnotic, soulful, sexy techno – bringing undeniable warmth to an often emotionally cold genre of music. His collaborations with Get Physical’s Swedish talent Tiger Stripes – like the hugely acclaimed “Elevation” and their joyous remix of Faze Action’s classic “In The Trees” – should likewise be added to the cannon of great house music history.

Sydenham’s desire to push the creative envelope took him into the world of Techno with the hit “Asama”, with which he launched the German based label Apotek Records. The year 2007 also saw the initiation of a new label collaboration, Avocado Records, established in Denmark with heavy weight producer Rune RK with the monster “Elephant”.

Royal X started his dj career about 10 years ago as Dj Xenobyte. Under this name he played at events like Defqon.1, Frequence outdoor and at clubs like Outland, Peppermill, Asta, Nightlive and many more.  After a few years and over a hundred gigs later  he changed his artist name into Royal X. After changing his he played again at Defqon.1 festival and Also at Decibel Outdoor. Besides playing at several events he also produced some tracks with Sebulba. Their track ‘Play Out’ appears on the ‘Black’ compilation of 2009.

From now on Royal X will provide a monthly hardstyle mix for Dance-tunes Radio on the first Wednesday of the week so watch out for this talent.

Dutch Master’s tireless efforts to become a world class DJ and producer are finally paying of in a brilliant career that’s taking him all over the world! Today he’s the headliner of choice for massive events in Los Angeles, United Kingdom, Melbourne, Sweden, Croatia and Austria and the list continues to grow.

Olaf Started producing at the age of 15 in 1994 with his first two hardcore CD releases at the age of 17(Picture). In 2004 he was responsible for the Headliner Anthem and in 2005 he went on to produce the Pinkster Par-t Anthem. His musical diversity resulted in a UK tech-trance release in 2007(Listen here) but nowadays Olaf is completely focussed on producing Hardstyle with great success!

Besides producing, Olaf has worked for organisations such as Outland (Rotterdam) and he was the founder of the famous Dutch party website Superfeesten. He is the co-founder of the largest Hardstyle merchandise store in the world, Hardstyleshop.com and now works closely in the studio with global superstars Showtek.

His brand new tracks ‘Fly Like A Rocket’ and ‘What Goes Around’ are already supported by the biggest names in the hard dance scene and is due to be released early 2010. With his top notch producer skills and hardstyle DNA running through his veins, this man is right where he belongs; on top of the hard dance scene!

The Eindhoven based act existing of the brothers Wouter (1982) and Sjoerd Janssen (1984) form the Dutch hardstyle formation Showtek. After their first release “Save the Day”, which scored more than twenty compilations CDs, they immediately established their name in the Dutch dance scene. Their follow up “Controller” turned out to be one of everyone’s favourite hardstyle track, and Showtek became more and more popular in The Netherlands and in other countries.
Later they released their records in co-operation with ID&T. This was a step forwards in the career for the two guys. So in March 2003 their record “Seid Ihr Bereid” was released on the Q-Dance/ID&T label. Again a pounding track which is on every DJ’s playlist.

The two brothers are booked on big events and clubs all over the Netherlands (Sensation Black, Shockers, Qlubtempo, Hardbass Extreme, Loudness, Qlimax, Xxlerator), and they have a monthly residency in their hometown, which is a great success. But they are not only spinning records… They also have a blasting live act. Their latest track is “Puta Madre” in 2006. They recently cooperated with Gizmo and released “3 The Hard Way”, and created “Rockin Steady” with Deepack.

Besides their great teamwork as Showtek, they also have their own solo projects. The youngest brother, DJ Duro produced his first record “Again”. After this track he released one of the most successful hardstyle records of the year 2003 called “Just Begun” (Scantraxx). Played by every Hardstyle DJ in Europe. Other hits from Duro include a collabaration with DJ Zany called “Our Power”, and tracks produced with The Prophet, “Shizzle The Remix” and “Cocaine Mother Fucker”, and a handful of remixes.

The oldest brother Walt, is a full time producer since December 2001 and in a short time he developed into an all-round producer with an international sound. His first solo tracks Exciter and Contact were released on the German “Blutonium” label. Later he produced the record called “Endless” together with Pascal Feliz. This track was a real success and was released in Holland, Germany and Belgium. In February 2003 Walt’s solo project, was released on the Carnal/Purple Eye Label.

Other projects of Walt are Southstylers (together with DJ Zany) with hits as “Wroaw”, “Wicked Generation” and “Diz Tortion”, Methods of Mayhem (together with Marcel Woods), and Woody Rivers.
