Chris Cortez presents Lift Off

During the year of 2009, the name of Chris Cortez suddenly headlined an impressive amount of lineups. Events such as Q-Base, Trance Nation Ground Zero and Optima Forma were the platform on which Chris, apparently out of nowhere, was able to show the world that a new artist had been born. This quote can be taken quite literally, because the man behind the name used to perform under a different alias for over ten years. Only to find himself stuck in a world he didn’t regard his own anymore, so he decided to start all over again, a complete new genesis which also came with a whole new sound. After being active in the harder regions of dance, Chris nowadays feels that he has finally come home and found his true passion, a passion that he shares with numerous people in the nation. Trancemusic has been around for over a decade and started to run through Chris’ veins more and more. And as they say: ‘Good things need time’. This also goes for Chris Cortez, a man who has embraced the true sound of Trance and is determined to never let it go.

Chris grew up in the capitol of The Netherlands and has always earned his credits within the Amsterdam dancescene. Starting off as a DJ, he also found his way into organizing and promoting events and became one of many people who turned Amsterdam into a danceminded city. Also nationally he found himself getting more and more recognition, performing throughout the entire country, he had reached a goal that he had in mind for so long. Even some major gigs abroad crossed his path and it looked like he had achieved almost all his goals within the world of dance. Goals such as performances at the renowned Dance Valley the legendary Impulz Festival, all big clubs and stages in Holland (a.o. Melkweg, Paradiso) and even some impressive headlinings in the UK, Greece and Thailand, he felt like he had seen it all. This and the fact that the sound that he used to love, started to evolve into something which wasn’t that much of his liking, he decided to overview his career. This made him see that he wanted to do something else, playing and producing a different sound, a different environment, the dawning of something that should be the beginning of a new era.

After a period of reflection, Chris Cortez finally felt that he had to give in to his everlasting love of Trance. Being the creator of the famous Trance Nation parties back in 2000, he used this name for a stunning return of a night that brought back memories. This concept is still standing strong (with a.o. a very special Judgement Sundays collaboration with a.o. Judge Jules, Sander van Doorn, Marco V and Sean Tyas) and expanded with a new family member. Optima Forma contains the same concept, only in a slightly smaller venue with more of a cosy vibe to it.

Next to DJ-ing and promoting, Chris has also found his way into the studio. This new experience resulted in his first release, dedicated to his brainchild Trance Nation. This anthem, called ‘Future Sound Of Trance’ will be released by Fausto’s label Excessive Records and has already proven itself to be a massive floorfiller. Major DJ support was already established, so it won’t take long before you’ve been tranced out by Holland’s newest one-to-watch. Chris Cortez is going to Trance the Nation!

Barry Fore has by far not the average profile of a DJ …. His love for the nightlife started in the early 90’s when the house music entered slowly numerous Belgian clubs . Besides going out he began to mix and produce tapes for his friends and to keep himself in the epic centre of electronic sounds each weekend he started to work in clubs for the love of music and saving some money .
Busy managing clubs and events for 10 years now his ambition for perfection soon led to the turntables during closing hours and special parties witch ultimately turned out to weekly sets in Versuz , 20 ft below basement parties , Tomorrowland 2004 – 2009 and recently Sensation White Belgium in 2009 .
Describing his style is quite tricky as he only aims for the crowd to move and enjoy themselves on the dance floor without getting cheesy on the decks . His sets are like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna get . Naturally his record collection contains soul full house , groove , electro , techno and minimal sounds blended with a fling of classy acapella ‘s.

Producing the First Floor Finest club compilations is also a priority for Barry , along with Dave Lambert and Tom Leclercq these mixed cd ’s dived regularly into the Belgian top 5 compilation charts and the latest compiled nr 14 edition with an extra Wally Lopez Mix promises to score even better ( www.versuz.be/shop)
Future plans also include a new label called ‘ Versuz Essentials ‘ and building a new club in 2010 , his first single You Versuz Me will be released later this year .

Het was weer een doldwaze avond met een hoop humor, drank, de verjaardag van onze presentator Sietse en natuurlijk de meest vette tracks van het moment. Als eerste hadden we Dj’s Tellurian en Dano in de uitzending om over Hellraiser te praten wat aankomende zaterdag in de Paradiso zal plaatsvinden. Hierna was het de beurt aan de talent van de avond ‘Dj Ivex’ die met een superdope set kwam.

Na een hoop geouwehoer zijn Bass D en Nick achter de CD spelers gekropen en deze geniale set is zeker de moeite waard om keer op keer weer terug te luisteren, doen dus!!!!

Neophyte Records en Oldschool Gangsters waren samen met de gebruikelijke Thunderdome Radio crew de hele avond door de geluidsbarrières heen beuken. Zelfs André kon zich niet aan de voorschreven doktersregels houden en was er met zijn gebroken ribbetjes gewoon bij.

Het is een knallende show geworden met in de eerste twee uur The Oldschool Gangsters onder leiding van Dj Rob en het tweede uur met Neophyte Records waar Dj’s Panic en Neophyte de boventoon voerden met een overweldigende set!!

Daarnaast sloot onze 16 jarige Nick de uitzending af met weer een knaller van een hardcore set.
Zeker de moeite waard om deze podcast even te checken dus

Hardtraxx Community Sessions – Episode 01 – Alphaverb

As announced recently at Hardtraxx.nl, the Hardtraxx Community Sessions at Dance Tunes Radio is a fact. They kick off with a special set by Alphaverb!

Alphaverb, about himself:

For me there has always been a love for electronic dance music. The first single CD I ever bought was “DJ Jose vs G-Spot – Wrong Is Right”, this is a track I can still enjoy. Looking at the releasedate of this track, that must have been somewhere in the year 1999 (when I was 13 years old).

A question which I heard a lot is “Have you had any musical education?”. Well no, I haven’t. The thing that got me started in producing music was, believe it or not; “Magic Music Maker”. I used to take those tracks to school on a CD and that is where I met Coen Oudejans (Intractable One). He introduced me to the software called “Jeskola Buzz”, which I still work with. That was around september 2001, so my producing career had started.

After a few years of trial and failure, it was in 2004 where I was offered my first contract with “State 28 Records”. The vinyl was called “Alphaverb & Friends” and contained 4 tracks with different producers under which Intractable One.
Getting a contract sounded interesting, but looking back it bound me to a label which unfortunately had not much to offer to me as a “starting producer”.

Having outwaited this contract, I had learned a lot in the meantime. It got me looking for labels that would not bind me in a way that is not interesting for me as a producer.
I had done some remixes on several labels without having any obligations to them.

One of the labels I had produced for was “impMUSIC”.
This is a label where a lot new producers get a chance to start their career without any further obligations. I personally did not like all tracks they released, but they had some very nice releases throughout the years.
My idea was to bundle the best tracks to a new sublabel that would stand for “refreshing” hardstyle. impMUSIC wanted to give me this opportunity and that’s where Bazz Implant was born.

This is where things started to get very serious for me. The label’s first releases were very controversial. Some because they were very good, some because they were very “different”.
I started to get a lot of bookings (mainly outside the Netherlands). I went to country’s like Estonia, Hungary, Spain, France and Italy. The highlight of this adventure was when I started a liveact with Intractable One and we wanted to perform as “Bazz Implant Live”. The first performances were a big succes and we got booked to play at Defqon 1 Festival in 2008.

Unfortunately, due to some personal problems the communication with impMUSIC did not go in a way that was satisfying for both party’s, so for that closed the Bazz Implant story for me.
I had a few choises I could make; I could join another label and change my style to fit them or I would start my own label and just go for the style I developed during the years. The last one was my choise.

Due to the fact we did not work for Bazz Implant anymore, we had to find a new name for our liveact. We took 2 letters of our individual artistnames and got to “AVIO (Alphaverb & Intractable One)”. Even though I had no experience in this world at all, this is where I decided to call the label I was starting “AVIO Records”, to have it recognizable
It took me a while to get it all off the ground but in the end of 2008 the first release was a fact!

Joseph Capriati, begins to approach the world of dj-ing in 1998 at the age of 11 with the passion for house and hip-hop. From 1999 to 2004 he performs in some clubs in south Italy and plays with various international dj’s growing musically and converted to the music that will totally transform himself: the techno! In 2005, begins his interest in the music production with the desire to create their own music and to play it. He began to learn the use of music-programms in a recording studio of his friend until does not buy his first sound card and midi keybord and begins to work on their own. In 2006 becomes resident DJ of the new club “underground” of his city , “Disco Seven” where perform with some best DJ’s of techno scene and here knows the owner of the GLOBOX, who decides to release his tracks on vinyl named “Formaldehyde” with the side B entitled “Microbiotik” that will take a great success and will be played by DJ’s like Richie Hawtin, Magda, Paco Osuna. In the end of 2007 Joseph has his debut on Analytic Trail with “C’est la vie”. With this track Joseph Capriati is strongly one of the most top charts producers of the year. In 2008 his releases on Alex Under’s Cmyk with the track “Giallo Canarino” and run to the “Neapolitan techno school”;with Rino Cerrone the “Orange” EP on Loose rec and “Unrilis 02”; with Markantonio “Round Zero” on MKT;with Uto Karem “Agile 02” etc.Same In 2008 Joseph together with Markantonio created “Codice Morse” for Alchemy rec. the label of Mauro Picotto,that was played by the most important artists and included in many collections,and lateron Analytic Trail the techno hit “Molotov” choiced by Richie Hawtin for first track in his tour set from summer to winter and played like first track too at Love Parade! In february 2009 his debut on the big techno label CLR by Chris Liebing with tracks “Login” and “Passworld” that confirms Joseph in the world techno scene . In 2009 arrives the release on the label DRUMCODE by the techno pioneer Adam Beyer with 2 EP’s DC 53 and 53.5 and at the beginning of 2010 he remixed the storic track “Remainings III” from Adam Beyer too. From here started a new era and new sound influences for Joseph. Are known his performance in festivals like Awakenings (Holland),Wire (Japan),Nature One (Germany),Electrosonic (Spain),GMID (Colombia),S.A.M.C. (Argentina),Sunjam (Honduras) etc and in some of the best clubs. He recently released his first album on Analytic Trail with 12 tracks also including some esperimental ones and in August another large ep on DRUMCODE with 7 techno tunes.

Phonokollektiv, probably one of the most talented guys around right now. Mixing everything with everything, combined into a smooth mix including the finest acapella’s! Phonokollektiv was established in early 2009. As a single artist Agony (Silvan Krauss) already showed his skills on many festivals like Love Parade in Berlin, the Liberty One in Ulm and the Rave festival in Munich. During the last 15 years he took control of almost every club in Munich and Austria, infecting the audience with his trancy, electronic based sounds. The other part is the talented perfectionist Colombian Soul (Andi Jelitsch), who performs music since the age of 6.

These guys are focusing on creating their own sounds with big support of Stephan Raith, a highly respected producer from Germany. He is the youngest part of Phonokollektiv.

Marc Romboy’s Systematic podcast delivers exclusive mixes from some of the finest underground artists around town, this week’s session continues onwards and upwards with none other than Florian Meindl.

Florian Meindl is an Austrian DJ, producer and sound designer. In addition to numerous collaborations with international artists he is busy with writing soundtracks for movies, advertising, producing remixes (currently for Röyksopp & Hot Chip) and has just successfully completed his BA studies at the London College of Music. He also writes articles about music production in magazines like Future Music and does music production shows for the Berlin Mitte Institut.

Until now his productions have been released on labels such as Trapez, Stil vor Talent, Resopal, Herzblut and Kling Klong. The 17th and current release on his own label FLASH Recordings is in production; this serves as a platform for continuous development and promises many unheard sound creations from Meindl’s universe.

Steve Brian:

In 2001 Steve and his friend Markus started with producing and deejaying. One year later their first common project “Marksun & Brian” was born.

Both guys played in several german clubs and they worked hard in their studio on a couple of tracks, In 2005 their first record “Gran Rey / Et Teragiz” was released by the known label Euphonic.

After the success the follow up single was released in the same year. The single “Neno Itome” was played by the big names in tranceland and made it a couple of known cd compilations.

As a logical step for Marksun & Brian they got countless requests for DJ gigs around the world.

In 2008 Marksun & Brian came back with a true club smasher, are very own single “Saturday” You can not compare “Saturday” with their old singles but the success and the attention was even bigger.

In 2009 Steve started his solo career known as Steve Brian.

He kicked of with the massive single “Yaya”. The tune got big resonances & many plays by DJs like Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Kyau & Albert, Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Lange, Ronski Speed and many more. Also Steve has started with his own monthly radio show “Calera Sessions” at the popular German web radio GlobalBeats.fm.

In September 2009 Steve released his next big tune called “Starlight” with an awesome DJ Eco Remix on the UK based label Lange Recordings. Starlight is featured on Lange’s Intercity Summer 2009 Compilation, ATB’s The DJ Vol.5, In Trance We Trust Australia Vol. 2 & get a great support from Gareth Emery, Blake Jarrel, Mat Zo, Roger Shah & many more.

Now in 2010 Steve had a great start with his follow up
on Lange Recordings called “La Gomera” including a really awesome Cressida remix ! La Gomera became a “Future Favourite” on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance show and was
“Record of the Week” on Above & Beyond’s Trance around the World show. More support came from Andy Moor, Kyau & Albert, Menno de Jong, Dash Berlin, Ronski Speed, Daniel Kandi, First State & other.

At the moment Steve works hard on remixes for Lange himself, Intuition Recordings & some more and his first debut album & follow up for Euphonic Records which will be released in June this year. Also this summer another bomb called
“Agulo – Fire Sign” will come on Enhanced Recordings with the vocalist David Berkeley from New York.
Furthermore Steve is working on his 3rd single on Lange Recordings.

With each release his sonic experimentation has taken another leap forward without losing sight of the dancefloor.  2009’s ‘Throb’ on Ovum and ‘Submit’ on CLR brought Perc his first support from the key Berlin tastemakers and his 2010 releases including ‘BCG’ (Perc Trax) and ‘Monad V’ (Stroboscopic Artefacts) have made him an essential artist for those with an interest in techno that refuses to conform to preconceptions. As Perc’s profile grows his booking schedule has become busier and Perc’s travels have covered all of Europe plus tours of USA, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and Japan. Personal highlights for Perc’s touring include a back-to-back set with Oliver Ho in Tokyo, his debut at Tresor in early 2010, being part of the Drumcode tent at Dance Valley in 2008 and playing on the same bill as Richie Hawtin and Speedy J at 2008’s Electric Deluxe Queen’s Day party at Melkweg, Amsterdam.
 This year Perc has frequently played alongside Josh Wink as part of the ’15 Years Of Ovum Tour’ and will make his debut at Berlin’s legendary Panorama Bar in September.

Check out this new episode of Captured Radio. Another 2 hours of great tunes ready to rock the place. Presented by Mike Shiver. The guestmix of this weeks episode is done by Stanislav Beta.

Stanislav Beta:

It was 1987 when he came in touch with ‘digital music’ the first time. His dad left him the Yamaha P01 synthesizer to experiment with basic functions such as FM modulation, basic substraction and getting sounds layered. Almost at the same time he discovered what he could get out of a guitar, borrowed from his grandpa. It must have been the time, that pioneered Stanislav’s way into making music. Focussing more and more on computer music helped him to aquire the technical skills needed in music production.

2006 was the time when he began to DJ, but he always favored creating melodies and chords. Several remixes of instrumental tracks followed by a row of ambient tunes were the result but he directed straightly into the EDM scene. Beside of that, Stanislav is involved in acoustic projects and can be met on stage with his rock’n'roll band.

Stanislav Beta’s debut release ‘Fix Star EP’ on Bonzai Music brought him into the scene and has received support by radio station ‘sunshine live’ and from guys like Sunny Lax, Adam Nickey, Piet van Noord and Eddie Sender. There’s certainly much more to come…
